good bye bafana
1. In general, what did you like and dislike about the film?
I think it was interesting the theme of the
movie, how one of the Mandela´s jailor saw him during his time in Jail and the
scenario and behavior of a white family during the Appartheid and its crisis.
Despite, the book that was used as source of inspiration to make is true or
not, cause it just a movie not a history record that need to be as closes as possibility
from the reality. It wasn’t a passionate movie or something like but it kept me
focus on, it while I watched it. But, I dint like that was to kind with the
jailors, I mean it could have had a more realistic touch if during the movie it
was showed the bad treatments that suffer all the black people in jail, it
could be say that was showed sometimes like when the major character says to
his son that the prisoners can’t see him cause it is a way of punishment, but
in that jail the conditions most had been brutal.
2. Who was the character you liked the most and the character you liked the least in the film? Why?
The character I most disliked it was Mindy
Mandela, especially after I have seen her in the film during the other class, “Long
way to freedom”, because it this one she was seen like a week woman with the
aspect of a Housewife, it was took away from her the spirit that she had in the
other movie, although I didn’t like to much her keen for revenge and violence.
The one I most like….well I cant say that I love any character in particular
but there is one that called my attention during the movie it was Gloria Gregory,
because she personify a typical white racist than more than hate has fear of
the black people and the end of their domination, because its believe that is
the way it should be.
3. How do the versions of James Gregory, Nelson
Mandela, and Winnie Mandela compare between Goodbye Bafana and Mandela:
Long Walk to Freedom?
In Goodbye Bafana, Both Mandela and Winnie are
showed like calm people and not like fighters like in Long walk to freedom. I
preffer more the character in the second film because in that one they have
more a spirit of someone that keep going the struggle against the apartheid, it
is like in Good bye Bafana everything is a bed of roses. But the two movies
helps to continues with the myth of Nelson Mandela, of a man that arrives to
guide his people in a paternalist perspective.
About Nelson Mandela in the Good bye bafana the
character it wasn’t given to an actor with big muscles, so he is showed more
like an ordinary black man. With Winnie it happen the same, her role was given
to a women that looks like a housewife that weep as soon as she see him, so the
figure of powerful women was destroyed.
