Kangamba

1. How does the film, Kangamba, show Cuban internationalism in Angola?

Cuba after its revolution understand the importance of an international movement and not been isolate of the rest of the world, they were and island but the communism needed it to be spread. Fidel Castro in many of his speech talked about how close the Cuban and African were in the struggle they were facing and the big tied that exist between them, for the influence in their culture from Africa, the third world, non withe rich, the oppression from the imperialism and go on..
In the movie a part of these conception was showed, because the Cuban soldiers that went to Angola to fight weren’t just there for a superior order from a crazy commander, they went because they felt a connection and the need to give support to their brothers, as it can be seen in the film. But in “Kangamba”, it is only showed how this support was in the army struggle despite the Cuban government also helped with doctors, educations, many African went to Cuba to study in the university there.
Another thing it is, how the Cuban soldier fight with the Angolan soldiers elbow to elbow and not like their superior, they were allies in all ways.

What was the most impactful scene for you? Why?

For me, the most impactful scene was when they village was attacked and destroyed, not for the quality of the images, the explosions and those things were really realistic, and with an old and poor production. Nut despite of this lack of special effects, the director manage the sequence to can show the most horrible of a war with the suffering of the people.

. What was something you liked and something you disliked about the film? Why?

About the thing I really disliked and I liked, I have a mix feeling. I mean, I really liked the end for the emotions that was given by the dead of Mario, until that moment I always thought he would stay in Angola to live with her beloved and keep the fight for the revolutions beyond the war, but he had to dye. It was very, I got to be very astonished after it. So I liked that end for the emotions, but I didn’t liked because after it I got a sad taste, I could have a happy ending, but that movies are easily forgotten I think. So that it is my mix feeling about the end, I liked it but at the same time I disliked, but I neither think that could have been different, it was a war.
